What is a Buddy?
A Buddy is a young New Zealand participant who joins Chinese students in classes, group projects, cultural activities and daily conversations. Buddies help create natural English-speaking moments while learning about Chinese culture, school life, food, cities and friendship from the inside.

Who Can Apply?

Curious about China and other cultures, respectful, open-minded and able to follow group rules.
We aim to build Buddy groups that reflect different aspects of New Zealand school and community life.
Participation
Join educator-led classes, warm-ups and English communication tasks.
Take part in discussions, interviews, games and team-building activities.
Collaborate on Project Boards, story pages, presentations and showcase preparation.
Experience supervised city, campus, food and cultural activities with the group.
For accepted Buddies, most in-China programme costs are supported by the Chinese delivery partner. These may include accommodation, meals, local transport, organised programme activities, listed cultural excursions, insurance during the programme period, bilingual support, supervision and emergency assistance.
Families are responsible for return international airfare, passport and travel documents, personal spending money, optional parent travel costs and any costs outside the official programme. The programme should not be described as a free trip.
